Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is the scraping of the upper layers of the skin with a controlled surgical method. The surface irregularities are softened, giving the skin a smoother look.

Dermabrasion is often used to improve the appearance of facial skin that has been injured by accidents or previous surgeries or to correct fine facial wrinkles. It is also sometimes used to remove pre-cancerous lesions called keratosis.

Dermabrasion can be done on small areas of the skin or on the entire face. They can be used alone or in combination with other procedures such as face lifting, scar removal / revision, or chemical peeling.

Who are candidates for dermabrasion?

Dermabrasion can improve your appearance and self-confidence, but no treatment can eliminate all scars and imperfections or prevent aging. Before deciding on a regenerating treatment, carefully consider your expectations and discuss with your surgeon.

Men and women of all ages, from teens to older adults, can benefit from dermabrasion. Although older people recover more slowly, your skin type, color and medical history are more important factors. For example, black skin, Asian skin and other dark skin may change color or stain permanently after a treatment that restores the skin. People who develop allergic rashes or other skin reactions or often get fever blisters or cold sores may experience an exacerbation. If you have freckles, they may disappear in the treated area.

Many plastic surgeons perform each procedure by selecting one or more procedures to suit the individual patient and problem. Others prefer a technique for all surface repairs. In general, it is used more often to treat dermabrasion for deeper imperfections such as chemical peeling, fine wrinkles and acne scars.

Dermabrasion is performed comfortably, often under local anesthesia. The process is done with special tools and takes a few minutes. According to preference, 2-3 sessions can be made and care recommendations are requested after the procedure. Results may vary depending on the skin structure, sometimes reddish.
