Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Both men and women may be candidates for abdominoplasty when a respond from diet and exercise cannot be obtained. In those who have a pregnancy and weight loss plan, this surgery should be postponed. All drug-herbal products and cigarette use should be shared with the surgeon.

Abdominoplasty is not a method of weight loss. Tummy tuck is an operation that stretches your skin, tightens your abdominal muscles. Together, liposuction is mostly used to give reshaping.

The surgery is performed in the hospital under general or regional anesthesia and lasts 2-4 hours. The incision is hidden in your underwear. Your abdominal muscles are thightened, and at the time you wake up from the surgery you will find yourself in a curved “V” shape. Your drains are removed in 1-4 days. It is recommended that you lean forward and walk so. If absorbable sutures are used, there is no need to remove them. Garments are strictly used for 1 month.

Some patients are good candidates for mini-abdominoplasty instead of traditional tummy tuck. Here, the incision is quite short and the duration of the surgery with the healing time is significantly reduced.

Circumferential (360 degrees) abdominoplasty may be preferred for those who had a previous bariatric surgery and/or massive weight loss. Here, more detailed analysis is mandatory prior to surgery.

Tummy-tuck can be combined with breast surgeries with great success rates.

Remember that abdominopasty can only be performed by a Plastic Surgeon and will you please ask your the doctor to inform you about possible bleeding, infection, asymmetry, stitching problems, and sensory disturbances.
